Heart of a Mother

Have you ever heard these expressions: “Put your heart into everything you do,” “I am broken-hearted!” “this is the desire of my heart…”

What do all these expressions have in common?  They all speak about the heart.  We often associate the heart to be the symbol of love.  Music, movies, and literature all talk, in some way about the heart.  We give honour and worship to the Sacred Heart of Jesus every time we receive Him in Holy Communion with good dispositions.  We glorify His Sacred Heart when we keep Him company in the Blessed Sacrament before the tabernacle.  We also glorify His Sacred Heart when we honour the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The month of August is devoted to the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Mary’s heart is so pure and so radiant with God’s love, for she surrendered her whole self to the Lord in love and peace.  Her “yes” to the Lord is perfect…even though the Lord did not show her every detail that was about to happen in her life as Mother of God, she trusted with confidence.  Can we do that?  Are our hearts ready to do whatever the Lord is asking…even if it is hard?  Even if it requires a sacrifice of ourselves?

We need to ask the Blessed Virgin Mary for purity of heart.  We should not get discouraged when we fall sometimes, but we should ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to help us to grow in love again.

Immaculate heart of Mary, pray for us!
